Born Out of Love – Started on a Farm

At Mosquito Sheriff, our story isn’t just about pest control—it’s about purpose, protection, and passion.

Our founder, Patrice Rice, has always forged her own path. A lifelong entrepreneur, Patrice began her journey on the water, launching the very first powerboat charter fleet in Annapolis, Maryland. At the time, Annapolis was known only for sailboats and the U.S. Naval Academy—but Patrice liked boats that moved with purpose. She managed a fleet of 34 yachts for investors, becoming the first woman captain on the Chesapeake Bay.

When the gas crisis of the early 1980s hit, her powerboat business dissolved—but Patrice didn’t stop there.

Her next venture was Patrice & Associates, a hospitality recruiting company she started from the basement of her home. It was far from easy. Patrice went without heat for an entire winter, but never gave up. She built the company into one of the largest hospitality recruiting firms in North America, eventually franchising it to help others work from home. By the time she sold it, the company had 175 franchisees across the U.S. and Canada.

Finally, Patrice fulfilled a lifelong dream—buying a small farm on the Eastern Shore of Maryland. She filled it with alpacas, miniature horses, and goats. Life was peaceful.

Then, tragedy struck.

Her beloved alpaca, Lilly, died in her arms. The next day, a goat passed too—both victims of brain worms transmitted by mosquitoes. Patrice was devastated. She contacted every mosquito control company nearby, but all of them used toxic synthetic chemicals. None offered an all-natural solution.

That was unacceptable.

Through persistence, Patrice found a chemist in Pennsylvania who had developed an all-natural mosquito control formula. He sent a sample. She used it. It worked.

And so, Mosquito Sheriff was born.
