We have all been there. You do everything you can to prevent them, but they still show up to the party. We are not referring to the neighbor down the street, we are talking about mosquitos. It happens to the best of us. The inevitable mosquito bites! It seems like a rite of passage to everyone’s life at some point. These bites itch and swell and can be a nuisance. In today’s blog we will take you through some great methods and home remedies to help ease the itch and get back to enjoying summer and grilling again.

 

Preventative measures are always the first step to stopping mosquitos in their tracks. We have talked about these in previous blogs. The best ways to prevent mosquitos on your property are to clear standing water after rain fall, maintain your lawn care, and to contact Mosquito Sheriff for your preventative sprays. To prepare for the inevitable bites it is best to have these next few remedies on hand.

 

Ice

Ice is always a great thing to grab when you first get bit by a mosquito. It is also really soothing for the itch that comes shortly after. It will help with the swelling and inflammation from the bite location.

 

Aloe Vera

Aloe Vera is the best remedy for Mosquito bites. The gel found in the plant is an effective and cost-efficient remedy for many aliments. This plant is used for things ranging from sunburn to cuts and of course Mosquito bites.

 

Oatmeal

Oatmeal is not just a breakfast favorite it is great for mosquito bites too! Make a paste by using equal parts oatmeal and water and rub on the irritated area. Oatmeal can calm the itching and swelling.

 

Baking Soda

Baking Soda is found in almost every kitchen and very inexpensive. It is like oatmeal in how it provides relief from itch and swelling. You can make a paste with equal parts of baking soda and water and apply to irritated area.

Grilled Garden Zucchini

INGREDIENTS

  • 2 medium zucchinisabout 8 oz each, sliced 1/4 inch thick
  • 1 tbsp olive oilextra virgin
  • 1 tbsp red wine vinegar
  • 1 tsp dried parsley
  • 1 tsp dried basil
  • 1/2 tsp garlic powder
  • Kosher salt
  • Freshly ground black pepper

 

INSTRUCTIONS

  1. Preheat grill on medium-high. In a large bowl, toss zucchini with oil, red wine vinegar, parsley, basil, and garlic powder. Season with 1/4 teaspoon salt and black pepper, to taste.
  2. Once grill is hot, carefully use tongs to rub an oiled paper towel over grates to clean.
  3. Using tongs, place zucchini on grill. Cover and cook, 2 to 3 minutes. Flip and continue cooking on high, covered, 2 to 3 minutes more.
  4. When zucchini is tender, remove from heat, taste for salt and adjust as needed and eat right away.
